Hirota Kokeshi Doll Decanter
For 120 years since its establishment in 1899, HIROTA GLASS has been dedicated to glass manufacturing. In recent years, Hirota Glass has created its own signature style through harmonisation of European traditional glassmaking technique and Japanese artistry.
The Kokeshi Sake Decanter brings together three traditional Japanese objects — the tokkuri (sake bottle), sakazuki (drinking cup) and the kokeshi doll. Kokeshi dolls are traditionally treasured as a good luck charm in Japan. Using Edo-glass techniques, these bottles are hand-blown into a mold to create bottles in the shape of a kokeshi body. The sakazuki becomes the bottle’s cap and the doll’s head, and when it’s used as a drinking glass, it sits tilted at an odd, but stable angle, allowing users to enjoy the flavour and aroma of sake.
